Phusang National park is a very popular destination for families. It is located in the province of Phayao and is a 96 km, 2 hour drive from Chiang Rai.
The park is very nice for picnics and swimming. There is a boardwalk into the jungle behind the waterfall area where you can experience the real jungle in safety. Over the road there are food stalls and a road side market.
It is a long way from any other tourist areas. If you were to visit i suggest doing the Pu Chi Fa Forest Park overnight stay and returning next day divert to take highway 1021 (intersects with highway 1155) to Phusang National Park which is only 18 km east. Then return back westerly on highway 1021 / 1020 back to Chiang Rai.
